Atlanta, Georgia – Morehouse School of Religion establishes internship partnership to promote a summer program with Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, TX. Cutting edge collaborative work could not have been achieved without the willingness and servanthood of Rev. Dr. D.Z. Cofield, Senior Pastor and Rev. Dr. Antonio Proctor, Morehouse School of Religion Interim Dean. “Our students were afforded an immersive opportunity outside of Georgia to develop personal independence, build ministerial networks, and enhance theological training beyond the walls of the Interdenominational Theological Center,” said Dean Proctor.

This Georgia-Texas summer intensive was the vision of Rev. Cameron D. Jenkins. It allowed seminarians to receive training within a church setting. Rev. Jenkins served as the Summer Internship Coordinator for Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, TX. “This partnership allowed us to take the classroom and the congregation and merge them together,” said Rev. Jenkins. Additional training exposes students to enhanced preparation and invaluable life experiences. We are grateful to receive glowing reports at the start of the 2025-2026 academic year regarding experiences received and the hospitality rendered.

Rev. Darias G. Bowers, Morehouse School of Religion Student Fellowship President, continues to lead by example representing the Baptist constituency well. “It has been an amazing experience sharing in this 2025 summer internship program with the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church. What can I say about the multiplicity of experiences we’ve had that have been not only enlightening but enriching and life changing? Through the many experiences that we’ve shared through this internship, one of the many being was participating in the Congress of Christian Education with Dr. Cofield being exposed to the National Baptist Convention and the many leadership trainings, preaching seminars, and worship experience that we were able to engage in not to mention the many networking opportunities that we had through Pastor Cam and through Dr. Cofield sharing their resources. One of the most memorable moments was participating in the sacrament of baptism,” shared Baptist Fellowship President Bowers. “It was a major blessing.

Morehouse School of Religion established a summer internship partnership with Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church in Houston, Texas with Dr. Marcus Cosby as well. Many of our students have been afforded preaching, teaching, and leadership guidance in Atlanta, Houston, and other cities around the globe. Those students are pastoring, teaching, leading national networks, and are involved in social justice movements because of alumni relationships and friends of the Morehouse School of Religion who participate annually in growing with us while praying for us. Together, we are working to educate the next generation of prophetic problem solvers.
